The weather of 2005 was that benign combination of rain-free warm days and cool nights that makes California the European grapegrower’s unattainable dream. Robert Parker, ever the stern critic, likes this wine. In Issue #168 of the Wine Advocate he says, “The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate . . . is a classic, elegant effort, perhaps not as extroverted and intense as some of Togni’s riper vintages, but offering a beautiful dark ruby/purple color as well as hints of menthol, tapenade, licorice, blackberry, and cassis . . . it smells terrific . . . is loaded with fruit, well-delineated, and capable of 20 years or more of aging.” (92-94 points.)
1997 Philip Togni Cabernet Sauvignon:
We are also offering the ten year old ’97 Cabernet. Here is a wine that will benefit from more time in the bottle, but – for a price – we have lifted you ten years along the aging
pathway. In Issue #126 of the Wine Advocate, Parker wrote, “The glorious 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon (a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc) is the most opulently-textured Togni offering since his 1992. It possesses a saturated purple color in addition to a thrilling but still reticent nose of blackberries, cassis, minerals, dried herbs, and smoky oak. Full-bodied, pure, thick, and creamy-textured, this wine's superb concentration conceals its lofty, but sweet tannin. Togni's wines possess exceptional aging potential, but it will be hard to keep your hands off this one after it has had another 2-4 years of bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2025+.” (94 points.)
2002 Ca’ Togni Sweet Red Wine:
In October, Parker will taste the ’02 Ca’ Togni which has improved by four years in the bottle. This wine has a very pronounced and exquisite bouquet. “Unique” is an overused word, but this wine really is unique. Parker’s comments on this wine also won’t be available until December, but for the very similar ’01 sold last year he said, “One of California’s most unique dessert wines is undeniably the Ca’ Togni made from Black Muscat. Although all of these cuvées have been excellent, the 2001 Ca’ Togni is one of the finest I have tasted. With 14.5% alcohol and 23% residual sugar, it boasts an amazing perfume of plums, figs, incense, raisins, and black fruits. Full-bodied, but not cloying because of the terrific acidity that balances out the residual sugar, it should last for a decade or more. It is a brilliant sweet wine to enjoy by itself at the end of a meal.” (96 points.) SHIPPING INFORMATION:

Shipping will be in Spring 2008, regardless of when your order is received. We will notify you by phone message that your wine has left the winery. If you have a change in your shipping address, please notify us immediately in order to avoid wine being shipped to an incorrect address. Because we are shipping wine, it cannot be redirected midstream; once it leaves here, it will go to the destination address and then be returned, incurring further shipping charges. |
